
David Gilliland is a versatile pianist, comfortable performing in mediums ranging from classical to jazz, and from opera to musical theater. He frequently accompanies a diverse array of vocalists, instrumentalists, and choral ensembles across the country, including the Chorus of Westerly. Professional highlights include affiliations with the Sphinx Competition, and the National Flute Association conventions in both 2014 and 2017. Commercial recordings of his include The Complete Wind Compositions of Henri Dutilleux, the flute sonatas of Modern Czech Masters with flutist Orlando Cela, and two albums with bass trombonist Ilan Morgenstern, It’s Alive!! and Danzón.
David is currently the Associate Teaching Professor of Collaborative Piano at the University of Rhode Island. He has previously served on faculties at Albion College, the University of Michigan, and Davidson College. He was the Collaborative Piano Coordinator for the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp for six years, and a faculty pianist for the Killington Music Festival. David holds graduate degrees in accompanying from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Minnesota; his primary teachers include Jean Barr, Margo Garrett and Karl Paulnack.
